Have questions about your BeSol+ device? We've got answers.
Question | Answer |
My device is showing a location on the map that is not accurate. | For the most accurate location reporting, the GPS receiver on your device needs a clear view of the sky. As with any GPS device, signals don't penetrate certain materials well—walls, vehicle roofs, tall buildings, mountains, and other obstructions can block line-of-sight to GPS satellites. |
What is the end-of-life voltage level when the device stops working? | The BeSol+ is equipped with a 3,000 mAh rechargeable LiPo battery, with a voltage range of 4.2V–3.5V. 3.5V is the cut-off point for the device to remain active. It will begin communicating again once the battery recharges to an acceptable level. |
What happens when a device can't connect to a cellular signal? How often does it retry? | When the device wakes to report, it tries several times to find a network. If it can't connect, it saves the data in a buffer and goes back to sleep, then tries again at the next wake event. The BeSol+ can store up to 23 messages (using FIFO—first in, first out) while disconnected, and forwards those events once it reconnects. |
How long does it take for my solar device to charge? | From a full charge, the BeSol+ delivers approximately 3,500 report events (without recharging) before the device stops responding. A full charge takes about 8 hours per day of sunlight over 8 days from empty, assuming ideal, uninterrupted sun exposure. Solar-powered devices generally need 4–5 hours of sunlight per day to charge effectively. |
How does the device trigger motion activity? | The device is configured to monitor for three 0.3g (g-force) events within 5 minutes to begin tracking motion activity, with the first point reported at the 5-minute interval. |
Does this device capture and report runtime? | Not at this time. |
Can the device be shipped via air? | Yes—the BeSol+ is not restricted for domestic air shipping. |
What carriers are supported for the device? | AT&T 4G/LTE and T-Mobile. Coverage includes North America (USA, Canada, and Mexico). |
What happens if the device gets too hot? | The BeSol+ has a thermal protection cutoff for charging above 45°C (113°F). If the temperature rises above this threshold, the device enters a protective state and stops charging until it cools down. |
How does the BeSol+'s Wi-Fi functionality impact battery life? | The device uses local BSSID Wi-Fi networks—similar to a cell phone—to report Wi-Fi-based location. This conserves battery by only triggering the GPS module when Wi-Fi location isn't available. |
