Dashcam Media Guide
The Dashcam Media page is where you can view media that has been uploaded automatically or previously requested.
Media is stored in the web portal for a period of 30 days but can be downloaded and stored on your own storage drive. If you have a driver facing camera installed and enabled, both inside and outside footage can be viewed simultaneously.
Dashcams store media on a local drive, this footage can then be retrieved remotely by requesting footage from a specific time. Automated uploads of media also occur when the dashcam detects certain events occurring.
The dashcam media page allows you to look at media across your fleet or for specific vehicles.
- Using the options on the left hand side, select whether you're looking for media from a specific group of vehicles or just one specifc vehicle.
- Next you can select the time range for the media that you want to show either by using one of the predefined options (Today, Yesterday, Last 7 Days) or by selecting specific dates.
- Below the Date Range you have the ability hide certain automated events and filter by the different media types, events types, and event categories. Just click on the different filter media options to force the page to only show the media you're interested in reviewing. The different event categories and types show as "tags" (such as "Harsh Cornering" and "Automatic").
- To start viewing footage click one of the thumbnails in the media list to open up the media player.
- Another way to make managing your media easier is the ability to add custom names to clips. Many events will come 'named' in a manner that reflects what event type it was (i.e. "Hard Left Turn") but others will say "Untitled Clip".
These events are triggered by the dashcam's ability to detect a certain incident or situation occurring. Many of these features are part of the the AI capabilities of the dashcam and do need to be turned on. Check out the Dashcam AI Features and Camera Settings articles for more information on this.
- Please see the table below for a summary of the different types of the events that can be registered by dashcams.

These events are video clips that are uploaded from the dashcam by the driver taking an action to trigger it. This functionality is possible on both the Xirgo and SmartWitness dashcams. See below for more details:
Xirgocam
- Previouly referred to as "Ok Presto" clips, these event uploads are triggered by the driver either saying the command "Ok Presto" or tapping the screen of the dashcam.
- When the driver takes this action the dashcam will upload a video clip including 10 seconds of footage prior to the command and 10 seconds after.
- The driver will be notified that the clip is being uploaded and will be given a chance to name the clip by speaking it out loud.
- We recommend using this phrase any time the driver would like to quickly bookmark an event for easy retrieval later.
SmartWitness
- KP2 Dashcam devices have a red or black button located on the device. This is somtimes referred to as a 'Panic Button'.
- Pressing the button on the device will trigger an automatic upload of a 20 second clip to the web portal.
- The dashcam will give a spoken response to the driver when this button is pressed noting that a "Panic Event" has been detected.
There are a few different ways of making specific requests for more media from dashcams when it has not come through automatically. These clips are tagged with the event type 'Manually Retrieved' as a request as been submitted directly to the dashcam for media.
- Starting your request: Depending on what sort of media footage you're trying to find there are a few different areas to initiate the retrieval from. All of these ways ultimately take you to the same main media request page to submit your retrieval but each as its own benefits for streamlining the process.
- From the map: If you know roughly where or when an incident occurred, it is easy to find that point on the map and request the media using the tracking event's timestamp.
- Navigate to the map and select show today's trail or history mode for time range you're looking for media from and ensure track points are turned on.
- Click on the track points that relate to the incident you're investigating.
- Next, click the dashcam icon to jump into the request media flow for that specific moment.

-
- From existing media: If some media is already available in the portal but you need to request subsequent clips you can drop into the request flow directly from the media player.
- In the bottom right hand corner of the media player just click the 'Request More Media' button. The request submittal page will then be preloaded to start from the end of the media you were just viewing.

- From media page: If you know the exact time of the video you’d like to request, you can go directly to the main request page.
- Click on Dashcam Media in the primary navigation bar on the left hand side.
- Select "Request Media" in the top right hand corner
- Choose the 'Media Source' by selecting the appropriate vehicle from the dropdown list.
- From media page: If you know the exact time of the video you’d like to request, you can go directly to the main request page.
- Submitting your request
- On the main request page you will now see something like the screenshot below.
- The dashcam will be 'pinged' to determine if it is Offline or Online.
- Additionally, the dashcams 'journal' (a timeline of where media should be available) will show.
- Xirgocam dashcam devices will also have an additional optional step that allows you to preview the media you're requesting. We call this "Quick View" and it allows you to stream a low quality version of the media you're looking for prior to requesting.
- Dashcam must be online for "Quick View" functionality.
- You can make further adjusments to the specific Request Start Time on this page as necessary.
- Select the camera view (road facing, driver facing or both).
- Select the length of the clip.
- Finally, verify your selection choices are correct, and click 'Request Media'.
- From time of request to media being available in the portal varies depending on a number of factors (dashcam online, vehicle driving, cellular connection strength and size of clip) but in optimum conditions requests can take as little as 2-3 minutes.
- Once the requested media is in the portal, it will remain there for 30 days.
- We recommend that users download the media locally so that they have a permanent copy.
- To download, look for the 3 dots menu on a media thumbnail or for the download icon when viewing the media.
- This will download the media as a Zip file to your computer.
- The file will contain the Road Facing and Driver Facing video as separate files.
