How to move a tracker to a new vehicle
Trackers can be moved between vehicles at anytime.
There are two ways to update the vehicle information associated with the tracker when switching to a new vehicle. (Both of these methods require you to have Admin Privileges on your account, more on that here: User Permissions)
You can reset a tracker for the 'Text to Activate' process that was completed during the initial install. We recommend doing this process as this will verify that ignition is being detected by the vehicle. Essentially the process is to change the Vehicle's Name and Description to the device's CP#. To do this:
- Swap the tracker into the new vehicle and take note of the "IMEI/ESN" number that is printed on the unit.
- In the ClearPathGPS portal, Navigate to Admin -> Vehicles
- Select the device you wish to reset by finding the IMEI/ESN number, and selecting that vehicle from the table. Or, if you know the name of the vehicle you removed the device from, you can select that vehicle
Note: You may need to turn on additional columns using the 3 dot menu in the top right of the table if you don't see the IMEI/ESN column. - On the Settings/Device tab, find and copy the ClearPath ID Number (It will say 'cp...')
- Go back to the Vehicle Details tab and and paste the cp number into the Vehicle Name and Vehicle Description fields.
- Click on 'Save'

AFTER:
Once you have done the above, you can do the text to activate process. We recommend updating/verifying the other fields in the Vehicle Details and Maintenance tabs to ensure they have the information for the new vehicle.
Instructions for the Text-To-Activate can be found here, by device.
- Swap the tracker into the new vehicle and take note of the "IMEI/ESN" number that is printed on the unit.
- Select Admin in the left hand Primary Navigation panel, and select Vehicles.
- Manually change the fields to match the new vehicle. We recommend that you record and upload the following information to the system:
- Vehicle name
- Vehicle Description
- VIN number
- Vehicle Make
- Vehicle Model
- License Plate
- Odometer (Providing an accurate odometer reading at time of installs and updating on a semi regular basis will ensure the mileage reported remains accurate.)
- Be sure to click 'Save' at the top right to save your edits.
- Ideally, once this has been done, you should start the vehicle and verify on the map that Ignition was detected and the device is reporting properly.
