What is Posted Road Speed?

Posted Road Speed compares each vehicle's speed against the posted limit of the road it's on, then flags events using three risk tiers (Low, Medium, High) that you configure.

Where do I configure it?

Go to Admin > Speed Settings. You set the three tiers and the global Max Speed value once, and the policy applies across the Map, alerts, reports, and the Driver Scorecard.

Do I need a different plan?

Posted Road Speed is included in the ClearPathGPS Pro plan at no additional cost.

Who in my account can change Speed Settings?

Admins can edit Speed Settings. Managers can view but not change them. Basic Users do not have access to Speed Settings.

What's the difference between Posted Road Speed and Max Speed?

Max Speed fires immediately whenever a vehicle reaches your global Max Speed value (default 78 mph), regardless of the posted limit. Posted Road Speed fires only when a driver sustains a tier's speed over the posted limit threshold for the duration you configured. Both can fire on the same trip and appear as separate events.

What does each risk tier mean?

Each tier represents how far over the posted limit you consider risky. The defaults are Low (10 mph over for 1 minute), Medium (15 mph over for 1 minute), and High (20 mph over for 1 minute). You can change the mph, the duration, whether each tier generates events, and whether each tier contributes to the Driver Scorecard.

Why didn't I see an event when my driver was speeding?

Posted Road Speed only creates an event when the driver sustains a tier's threshold for the full configured duration. If they dipped below the threshold even briefly, the timer reset. If the tier was turned off in Speed Settings, no event is generated. If Google did not have posted speed data for that stretch of road, no event is generated.

What if Google's speed limit is wrong?

Open the event on the Map and click Report to Google in the event pop-up. This sends you to Google's correction form so the data is updated at the source.

Will my historical events change when I update my settings?

No. Changes to Speed Settings apply forward only. Past events stay exactly as they were recorded.

How does Posted Road Speed affect the Driver Scorecard?

The Driver Scorecard's Speeding column counts every Max Speed event and every Posted Road Speed event from tiers where the Include in Driver Scorecard Speed Calculation checkbox is enabled in Speed Settings. A driver who escalates through multiple tiers in one incident contributes a Speeding count per tier they sustained.

How do alerts work when a driver escalates between tiers?

If a driver sustains Medium and then escalates into High and sustains that, you get a separate alert for each tier. The maximum is one alert per tier per continuous incident. When the driver de-escalates back to a lower tier, no new alert fires for the drop.

Can I set different speed thresholds for different vehicles?

No. Posted Road Speed uses one global policy that applies to every vehicle on your account.

Does Posted Road Speed work on mobile?

Yes. Posted Road Speed icons appear on the Map in the ClearPathGPS mobile app on both iOS and Android. Tap an icon to see the tier, the vehicle's speed, and the posted limit. Mobile trail settings let you show or hide each tier.

What does the "Multiple Events" icon mean on the Map?

When two or more Posted Road Speed events fall on the same breadcrumb stack, they collapse into one Multiple Events icon to keep the Map readable. Trail settings let you toggle this behavior on or off.
