Posted Road Speed gives you a smarter way to manage speed compliance, one that accounts for where your vehicles are and how fast they're allowed to go there. Instead of applying a single speed limit across every road, you can set thresholds that adjust to the posted limit your driver is actually on.

What is Posted Road Speed?

Posted Road Speed is a speed policy that automatically compares each vehicle's speed against the posted limit for the road they're currently on. Instead of measuring every driver against a single global number, it uses real-world speed limits as the baseline — so a driver doing 45 mph on a 35 mph road is treated differently than a driver doing 45 mph on a 55 mph road.

How to Set Up Posted Road Speed

1. Open Admin > Speed Settings.

2. Set your Global Max Speed value. 
   
   This is triggered immediately whenever any vehicle's speed reaches this number, regardless of the posted limit (Default is 78 mph).
    

3. Configure each Posted Road Speed tier (Low, Medium, High). For each tier, set:

   • The speed over the posted limit value (1 to 30 mph)

   • The sustained duration (30 seconds, or 1 to 7 minutes)

   • The on/off toggle (controls whether new events are generated)

   • The Include in Driver Scorecard Speed Calculation checkbox (controls whether the tier contributes to the Driver Scorecard Speeding count)

4. Click Save. 
   
   Posted Road Speed events generate from this point forward. Historical events are not retroactively recalculated when you update Speed Settings.
   
   

Viewing Posted Road Speed Events on the Map

When a driver sustains a tier's threshold, a tier-colored icon appears on every violating event along the trip. The icon color updates as the driver escalates or de-escalates between tiers.

Click an event icon to see:

• Over Speed Limit by X mph

• The posted limit at that location

• The vehicle's speed at that moment

If two or more events fall on the same breadcrumb stack, they collapse into a single Multiple Events icon so the map stays readable.
 

Each vehicle's history table includes a Posted Speed column showing the posted limit at each point of the trip.

How to Set Up a Speeds Over Alert

1. Go to Alerts > Speeds Over.

2. Pick the Posted Limit trigger.

3. Choose which tiers you want to be alerted on (Low, Medium, High, or any combination).

4. Add your recipients and click Save.

The thresholds and durations are inherited from Admin > Speed Settings. You do not reconfigure them on the alert.

Alerts are triggered on tier escalation only. A driver who escalates from Medium to High during one continuous incident produces two separate alerts (one for Medium, one for High). De-escalation does not re-alert.
 

Where to Find Posted Road Speed Appears in Reports

Posted Road Speed events appear in:

• Driver Scorecard: The Speeding calculation now includes every Posted Road Speed event from a tier where the Include in Driver Scorecard Speed Calculation checkbox is enabled in Speed Settings

• Speed Risk Report: A new dedicated report with columns for Rank, Date, Start Time, Duration, Risk, Vehicle Speed, Speed Limit, Over Limit By, Address, Risk Threshold, and Sustained For Threshold.

• Vehicle Behavior, Driver Behavior, Speeding Counts, and Driver Event Detail Reports: All include Posted Road Speed events alongside Max Speed events.

Where Posted Road Speed Appears On Mobile

• Posted Road Speed icons appear on the Map in the ClearPathGPS mobile app on both iOS and Android. Tap an icon to see Speeding: [Tier] @ X mph along with the posted limit and the vehicle's speed.

• Mobile trail settings include three toggles for the Posted Road Speed tiers, plus a Multiple Events toggle for the collapsed-icon view.
