OEM Integration Frequently Asked Questions
Question | Answer |
|---|---|
What is OEM vehicle tracking? | OEM vehicle tracking lets you connect eligible vehicles to ClearPathGPS using the factory-installed telematics already built into the vehicle. No additional GPS hardware is required. |
How does OEM tracking work? | The system connects securely to your vehicle's built-in systems through approved vehicle manufacturers. Vehicle data is sent directly to ClearPathGPS for tracking and reporting. |
Do I need to install any hardware? | No. OEM tracking is completely hardware-free. All data comes from the vehicle's factory-installed telematics system. |
What vehicles are eligible for OEM tracking? | Eligibility depends on the vehicle manufacturer and model. Vehicle VINs are checked during setup to confirm whether they qualify. |
Do I need to provide permission to access my vehicle data? | Yes. Vehicle manufacturers require your consent before sharing vehicle data. Consent is required for each manufacturer you want to connect. |
How long does it take for data to appear? | After consent is approved and the vehicle is registered, data typically begins appearing within 24 hours. |
What is an OEM device? | An OEM device is a virtual device. It is not physical hardware and is not permanently tied to a specific vehicle. |
Can I manage OEM vehicles like my other tracked vehicles? | Yes. OEM-connected vehicles can be viewed, edited, transferred, or removed using the same workflows as vehicles with GPS devices. |
Can I use OEM tracking alongside GPS tracking devices? | Yes. OEM-tracked vehicles and vehicles with installed GPS devices can be managed together in ClearPathGPS. |
Are there any limitations to OEM tracking? | Data availability and update frequency can vary by manufacturer. Some features that rely on physical hardware may not be available through OEM tracking. |
Who is OEM tracking best for? | OEM tracking is ideal for fleets that want fast deployment, minimal setup, and a hardware-free way to track eligible vehicles. |
How do I get OEM on my account? | Contact your account rep or ClearPathGPS Support to purchase OEM tracking. They will verify manufacturer consent for the vehicles you want to enroll. are |Once OEM is on your account, those vehicles appear in Vehicle Admin with OEM Setup Required status, then update to OEM Connected as setup completes. |
Why does a vehicle show "OEM Setup Required"? | The vehicle is on your account but is not yet receiving OEM data. The status updates to OEM Connected once consent confirmation and registration are complete. If a vehicle stays in OEM Setup Required longer than expected, contact ClearPathGPS Support. |
Where does OEM data appear? | Everywhere your hardware-tracked data appears. The Map, Reports, Vehicle Admin, Driver Scorecard, and mobile app all display OEM vehicle data alongside hardware-tracked data. |
What data do OEM vehicles report? | Movement (ignition, heading), driver behavior (speeding, hard acceleration, hard braking, hard cornering, idling), vehicle health (engine info, fuel, oil, tire pressure, fault codes), and usage (odometer, engine hours). Some data points depend on what the manufacturer exposes. |
Why don't I get Low Vehicle Battery alerts for my OEM vehicles? | The vehicle battery reading is not part of the OEM data feed, so the alert has nothing to trigger on. This is expected for OEM vehicles. |
Do Power Disconnect alerts work on OEM vehicles? | Power Disconnect alerts come from a physical tracker. OEM-connected vehicles do not use one, so these alerts do not apply. |
Why don't OBD or PTO reports include my OEM vehicles? | Those reports use data that comes from plug-in tracker hardware. OEM vehicles do not have that hardware, so they are not included in OBD or PTO reports. |
Are diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) available for OEM vehicles? | Yes, when the manufacturer exposes them. DTCs appear on the Vehicle Details page and in the Fault Code Summary report. |
Do Driver Scorecard scores work for OEM vehicles? | Yes. Speeding, hard acceleration, hard braking, hard cornering, and idling events from OEM vehicles all feed into the Driver Scorecard the same way as hardware-tracked events. |
How do I replace the VIN on an OEM vehicle? | If an OEM vehicle is decommissioned and you want to assign its OEM tracking to a replacement vehicle, open the vehicle, go to Vehicle Information, click Edit VIN, confirm the prompt, enter the new VIN, and click Save. |
How do I add more OEM tracking to my account? | Contact your account rep or ClearPathGPS Support. |
How do I remove OEM tracking from my account? | Contact your account rep or ClearPathGPS Support. |
