The Driver Scorecard gives you a quick, easy way to understand driving behavior by turning driving events into a simple, easy-to-read score. With this at-a-glance view, fleet managers can spot potential risks, coach drivers more effectively, and take proactive steps to improve overall fleet safety.
Driver scores are calculated automatically and are available throughout the platform—including reports, the vehicle map, and the mobile app—so you can stay informed wherever you’re working.
Note: The Driver Scorecard feature is only available to Pro customers. Please contact your Account Representative if you are interested in this feature.
Risk Level Classifications
Driver Scores are categorized into risk levels, represented numerically and color-coded, to help quickly identify driving behavior trends:
Low Risk: 90–100
Medium Risk: 75–89
High Risk: Below 75
How Driver Scores Are Calculated
Each driver is assigned a Driver Score ranging from 0–100, where 100 represents the safest possible driving behavior. All drivers begin with a score of 100, and points are deducted based on driving activity over time.
Event Types Included
The following event types contribute to the Driver Score calculation:
Speeding
Excess Acceleration
Hard Braking
Hard Cornering
Idle Time
Events with a higher weighted impact will result in a greater reduction to the Driver Score.
Speeding combines Max Speed events with Posted Road Speed events from tiers where Include in Driver Scorecard Speed Calculation is enabled in Speed Settings.
Score Calculation Methodology
Driver Scores are calculated using the following formula:
Event-Based Scores: 20% (weight) × (1 (number of events) ÷ 1200 (miles driven) × 100)
Time-Based Scores: 20% (weight) × (40 (idle hours) ÷ 60 (engine hours) × 100)
The Driver Score displayed on the Vehicle Map and in the mobile app reflects data collected from Driver Scorecards over the past six months.
Note: Event weighting values are configurable at the account level by administrators, allowing organizations to align Driver Scores with their specific safety priorities.
Accessing Scorecard Information
User Permissions
User permissions determine the level of driver scorecard visibility and a user's ability to manage the data. The following outlines what each role can view or manage across the platform, including reports, settings, and mobile access.
Admin — Full Permissions
Admins have full control over Driver Scorecard configuration and reporting.
Can manage Driver Scorecard weight values
Full access to run Driver Scorecard reports
Can view all driver scores in the mobile app
Fleet Manager — Read-Only Access
Fleet Managers can view Driver Scorecard data, but cannot modify scoring rules.
Read-only access to Driver Scorecard weight settings
Full access to run Driver Scorecard reports
Can view driver scores on mobile for vehicles they have access to
Basic User — Limited Access
Basic Users have visibility only into their own driving performance.
No access to Driver Scorecard reports
No access to Driver Scorecard weight settings
Can view only their own Driver Score in the mobile app
Viewing Driver Scorecard Data
You can access the Driver Scorecard from the Reports and Map sections of the ClearPathGPS web application.
Reports
To open the Driver Scorecard report:
Click Reports from the left-hand navigation.
Scroll to the Driver Reports section, then click Driver Scorecard or use the Search field to enter "Driver Scorecard", then click the Driver Scorecard option.
From there, you can run a scorecard for your entire fleet using your preferred date range and time zone settings.
Map
Driver scores are also available directly on the vehicle map when a driver is assigned to a vehicle.
To view a driver’s score on the map:
Click Map from the left-hand navigation (if not currently selected).
Click on a vehicle from the list or use the Search and/or Filter buttons to locate the applicable vehicle, then click the vehicle.
The Vehicle Panel displays for the selected vehicle.
Scroll to the Driver Score section in the vehicle panel.
This section displays the driver’s name and photo (if available), current score, risk level, and a visual score gauge for quick reference. From here, you can click Run driver scorecard report to quickly obtain more granular details.
Note: If a driver is not assigned to the vehicle, you can assign a driver by clicking Assign a driver from the Driver section and then following the prompts.
Mobile App
Driver scores are also available in the mobile app for quick access.
In the mobile app, users can view:
Driver score
Risk level
Score gauge
This information can be viewed from the Vehicle Details and Profile Pages.
Viewing and Customizing Report Columns
The Driver Scorecard Report includes a variety of columns to help you analyze driver behavior, performance trends, and risk levels at a glance.
Depending on your configuration, the report may include the following columns:
Driver Score
Risk Level
Events per 100 Miles
Individual Event Scores
Total Event Counts
Miles Driven
Engine Hours
These columns provide both high-level insights and detailed performance data for each driver.
Add or Remove Report Columns
You can customize the report view to display only the data most relevant to your analysis.
After selecting your report setting parameters, run the Driver Scorecard Report by clicking Run.
Click the More button, then click Edit Table Columns.
The Edit Table Columns selector displays.Check or uncheck column types to add or remove them from the view.
Click Save.
Your column selections update immediately and apply only to your current report view.
Adjusting Driver Scorecard Weights
Administrators can customize how different driving behaviors impact Driver Scores by adjusting the Driver Scorecard weight values. These weights determine how much each event type contributes to the overall Driver Score calculation.
Updating Driver Scorecard Weights
Click Admin from the left-hand navigation.
Click Driver Scorecard.
Adjust the percentage weight for applicable event type(s):
Speeding
Excess Acceleration
Hard Braking
Hard Cornering
Idle Time
Ensure all values are whole numbers and that the total equals 100%.
Click Apply Weighted Values to apply the changes.
Note: You can return values to system default settings by clicking Reset to Default Weights.
Important Notes
Weight changes apply across the entire account.
